A fluffy duckling with dashed guide lines instead of a solid outline. Children go over the dashes with a pencil first, which builds the hand control that coloring inside the lines needs, then fill in the body once the shape is theirs.

How to color the Duckling coloring page

Print two copies of this one. The first is for tracing — pencil on every dashed line, no colour yet — and the second is for colouring once the shape is familiar. Going over the dashes is the same movement as forming letters, so this sheet is genuinely useful in the months before handwriting starts, and far less discouraging than a worksheet of loops. Keep the pencil sharp: a blunt one skips the shorter dashes and the outline comes out broken.
